Center City Love
Manuel "Phelany" Ramirez, 2024
Colon Tire and Alignment, Manchester, NH
18 ft x 40 ft - Spray Paint
This mural was conceptualized by Manuel "Phelany" Ramirez and Jason Bonilla, and painted by Ramirez of Positive Street Art. Center City Love honors the resilient spirit of immigrants who have shaped Manchester's Center City. It's a vibrant tribute to cultural pride, unity, and the power of representation.
Central to the piece is the "DAP" handshake - a gesture of ‘Dignity and Pride’ originating in the 1960s and deeply rooted in nonverbal communication during the Vietnam War - now a universal symbol of solidarity. The figures portrayed are real members of the local community: students, workers, and everyday people who breathe life into the city.
Commissioned with support from the City of Manchester Board of Mayor & Aldermen, the Manchester Arts Commission (MAC), and the NH Center for Justice & Equity.
Special thanks to: Jason Bonilla, Sandra Almonte, Zachary Palmer, and the student models from Central High School and many more beloved community members who lent a hand.
A mural for the people, by the people.
